Proceed north to the Vaughn family plot under a little tree.
Clayton Vaughn was Fair Oaks’ first barber. He came from
Illinois in 1906 and had Joseph Broadley build him a house
on Howard Street, just south of Bridge Street. He barbered
from the front porch, then later built a barber shop, just
east of today’s Finegold’s Coins (2017). This shop later
sold to George Scott, then Frank Speth, so Clayton’s barbering
tradition in Fair Oaks had an 80-year history. He is buried in
a family plot with his wife, Ella, to his right.
