Turn around from the Buffum stone and facing away from you
is the large stone of Leonard Shelton.
Leonard Shelton came to Fair Oaks from Mississippi in 1895.
He opened the first general store and post office at the
southeast corner of Main Street and California and was
there until about 1925. The store was the first and only
place for the earliest Fair Oaks residents to buy necessary
goods and to send and receive mail. He is buried with his
wife, Mary Shelton and his daughter, Lillian Shelton, is
buried to the north of her parents.
