John Cunningham came to Fair Oaks from Minnesota in
1896 and built a “starter home” on Sunset Avenue just west
of New York Avenue. He returned to Minnesota, sold his
belongings and returned to Fair Oaks to build a fine home
(still standing) on the property. He was an orchardist and
the president of the Fair Oaks Fruit Company. He later built
the first home on Sierra Street. He is buried here with his
wife, Emma, and is surrounded by members of his family.
