Go a short way east and under the large tree you'll find the Burlingham plot.
George Burlingham, the builder and first owner, was a gold miner who built the first house
on Hill Street in 1898. He referred to the structure as a “Payday Shack”. After mining
fizzled out, George went into citrus farming. He died in 1933, the year of the big freeze.
He's buried here with his wife Jennie.
