You're at the middle of the old Fair Oaks bridge,
sometimes called the old red bridge. Some think it was a
railroad bridge but that is not the case. No train ever
crossed the river between Sacramento and Folsom. The
first bridge was built in 1901 and washed out in a flood in
1907. It was rebuilt, higher and stronger, and still stands
over a hundred years later. It was the main artery into
Fair Oaks from 1901 to 1961 when it was closed to
vehicular traffic. We’ll now take you on a descriptive tour
of the area surrounding the bridge.
