Up the hill from the Ice House on the northeast corner
of Watkins Drive and Sacramento Street is the first Fair
Oaks church, built in 1897. The residents took a vote
as to which religious denomination it would serve, and
the Methodists prevailed, but it was really
multidenominational. Several years later, an extension
was built off the back to house the rectory. After the
Federated Church was built at the south side of the
village, the steeple was removed from this church and
the building renovated as a residence.
